Jen Goma & Kristine Haruna Lee at LALA Festival Minneapolis

July 28, 2018 by Haruna Lee

Kristine and Jen just performed a new snippet of their ongoing collaboration plural (love) at LALA Festival in Minneapolis, now in its second year of sharing local and national experimental theater with its communities. Inspired by the landscape and visuals of the city, they went midnight flower-picking and shared their work at the Red Eye Theater to a brand new audience. They will continue their collaboration on this piece through Soho Rep Writer/Director Lab, with a work-in-process showing slated for January 2019... More info on that soon!

Kristine & Jen in the Soho Rep Writer/Director Lab 2017-18

November 08, 2017 by Haruna Lee

Kristine and Jen are psyched to working on their new collaboration plural (love) at the Soho Rep Writer/Director Lab for the next two years. Separate from the Lab, they are working with director Morgan Green on this same piece through the New Georges Jam. They hope for these two opportunities to generate much material that will intersect and integrate to become the play.

on their play:

“plural (love) is a live performance that catalogues quandaries on ‘love’ shared in real-time. Drawing from auto-theory, daydreaming, critical theory/text, and song, we exercise radical truth-telling, which has become a major feminist project for both of us creatively and in life.”

Find out more about the lab here.

Reading of Suicide Forest at Ars Nova

April 20, 2017 by Haruna Lee

As part of the Makers Lab Residency at Ars Nova, we will be sharing a new play by Kristine Haruna Lee titled Suicide Forest Directed by Aya Ogawa, at Ars Nova May 4th at 3pm. The play will be read by an all Japanese/Japanese heritage cast.

A despairing salaryman and a fed-up young school girl both decide to enter Japan's most notorious suicide spot, 'Aokigahara' or Suicide Forest, at the base of the national mountain. A nightmare play examining the sickness of a culturally uniform masculinity and the traditionally heroic performance of suicide.

The Reading is free, but we ask that you make a reservation here.
